LOC strengthens customer support for North Sea region

LOC have opened two new offices to strengthen our services in the North Sea region. Complementing our existing LOC hubs in London, Aberdeen and Stavanger, the new offices are located in Newcastle, UK and Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

Peter Holloway, LOC’s regional director for Europe and Africa, explains why Newcastle and Leeuwarden were selected, “Newcastle is a thriving maritime hub boasting significant P&I, legal and other facilities. Leeuwarden also has a rich maritime heritage and is ideally located for access to the major European North Sea hub ports as well as eastward to the ports in the Baltic.”

Heading up the Newcastle office is Malcolm Jowsey, a highly experienced marine engineer and Newcastle local. He said: “We have a multi-disciplined team here in Newcastle which will continue to grow alongside the requirements of our customers. I am looking forward to cementing our relationship with the local marine community and delivering the services that will allow their businesses to flourish.”

Former master mariner and consultant, Captain Ane Heidema is leading the Dutch office bringing with him a wealth of oil major experience as well as local and regional knowledge.

“From our new base in Leeuwarden we are well positioned to service installations and customers in the North Sea, German Bight and the Baltic. This is our first office in northern Europe and I fully expect to see others established in the near future”

An Adventure of a Lifetime

LOC Singapore is looking to sponsor two Singaporeans (one with a physical disability or sensory impairment and one able bodied), male or female between the ages of 16 – 18, who will be assigned to ‘buddy’ each other and together they will discover how to sail a square-rigged tall ship.

The adventure of a lifetime is the opportunity to join the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s tall ship STS Lord Nelson, as full working crew members, on a six-day local voyage commencing on the 28 May 2013 and returning to Singapore on 3 June.

Celebrating UK shipping

As a member and supporter of the UK Chamber of Shipping, we were delighted to attend its annual celebratory dinner earlier this month. We were among 600 guests who heard UK Shipping Minister, Stephen Hammond, endorse the Chamber’s long-running campaign to develop a cross-departmental maritime strategy for Britain.

Helen Deeble, the Chamber’s first female president, hosted the event and took the opportunity to express a number of concerns relating to Britain’s membership of the EU. Top of her list was its tendency to over regulate without delivering any tangible benefit. She warned that uncertainty over whether Britain would retain its membership after the promised referendum in 2017 was “the enemy of business”.

The UK Chamber of Shipping is a powerful lobbying body for British shipping interests and our involvement allows us to contribute to the debate. The dinner was a great opportunity to network with like-minded people and to celebrate British shipping.

Raising awareness of the UK’s subsea sector

Parliamentarians and over 100 subsea professionals from across the UK, including LOC London’s Brian Jones and Howard Longley, attended the Subsea UK Parliamentary reception at the Houses of Parliament at the end of June.

Subsea UK, the promotional body for the UK’s £6bn subsea sector, holds the reception annually to raise awareness of this thriving industry with government ministers and the numerous employment opportunities it brings. The high profile event was attended by senior politicians including Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable and Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey.

Commenting on the event LOC Associate Director Brian Jones said: “I was really encouraged to see such a high level of interest shown by politicians in further developing the UK’s subsea sector. The UK has a huge level of expertise in so many aspects of offshore oil and gas energy projects and it’s important that we get this message across to parliamentarians from across the political spectrum.”

LOC provides a range of warranty survey services and consultancy to the sector including installations, pipelines, manifolds, wellheads, flowlines, umbilicals, jumpers and flying leads as well as associated subsea equipment modules from shallow to very deep waters.
